Bio: The year, 198?. I grew up in Los Lunas, New Mexico about 15 minutes south of Albuquerque far from the roots of where hip hop got its start. To be honest I have no idea how I found my first hip hop album, but somehow someway the beastie boys album licensed to ill found its way into my collection. I thought it was aight and moved on.
It wasnt until I met my boy that had recently moved from the Bronx did I find my true love for hip hop. When he moved to the land of lost he brought with him a few albums that grabbed my attention. They were mix tapes that had a really rough street feel to them. The albums had 3 tracks that I remember very well: Onyx - Throw Your Guns, Brand Nubian - Pass the Gat, and Wu-Tang's Protect Ya Neck. Now realize at this point these three groups had not yet released any albums. It was another 3 or 4 years before any of them actually did drop an album. This was strickly raw, uncensored, basement studio type cuts. At that point my eyes opened and I had been bit by this bug that would change the way I looked at music.
Shortly after I heard those three songs I started doing research to find more music that moved me in that way. And what did I find? You know I found me some Tribe, which lead to De La, which took me to the Jungle. I rode the native tounge tip for a while before KRS caught my ear. After that the rest is history. I spent every extra penny I got buying as much hip hop as I could. Thats where it all started. I bought myself a 10 pack of tapes and went to work. I took all the hip hop I had and made my own mix tapes giving them to friends. Mix tapes eventually lead to mix CD's and on and on.
Fast forward to 2000. I had just moved from NM to DC. My boy monarch had moved with me and we get a call from our other boy Monster. He says he is doing club promotions out in Tucson AZ and that we shoudl give it a shot here in DC. He says he promotes something called The Hip Hop Lounge at various low budget bars and clubs around the area and is making good money. So me and monarch try it out. We fail horribly cause neither of us knows shit about DC.
During that period I started the web site. The idea back then before the DMCA was to put fresh new music up so my deprived boys back in NM and AZ could hear it. As I was doing that I stumbled accross a site called live365. They allowed me to be the DJ, Program Director and all. I scooped it up and the rest is history.

DJ Watts Comments: DJ Azteca brings alot of flava and creativity to the hip hop lounge. AZteca is responsible for bringing the listeners the phat intros and promos during the broadcast. The lounge will be used as his platform to jump to the ranks of DJs like DJ Camilo and Funk Master Flex (At least what Flex used to be before his total access - sellout tour). Look for big things in 2004 and beyond from this cat.
